OXID gets a Portuguese translation

November 30, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser Leave a Comment

Very good news if you want to run a modern, free and open source e-commerce plattform from Portugal: Thanks our Portuguese community member, monteiro, Portuguese translation is now available for OXID eShop. In a first step, I put the complete file to the language section of OXIDforge. This file for displaying the front end in the correct translation, is available under GNU GPL. Of course, you [Read more...]

First Open Source Meeting in Leipzig Recap

November 26, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser 1 Comment

Awesome, awesome, awesome :-) I never expected 35 (!) people bringing together after this very short-term announcement, I was really surprised! Obviously, most attendees did not even see the direct announcement but heard it somehow as a rumor from their friends: "Did you hear about that Open Source Meeting? I cannot go but you ought to... ". And this is how it actually shall work. Hey, Leipzig [Read more...]

Rewritebase OXID eShop

November 22, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser Leave a Comment

Again and again I see my website being found with the key word "rewritebase oxid eshop". Obviously this seems not to be a clear case. Let me explain it: The OXID eShop strictly uses so called re-written URLs, known as "permalinks" in WordPress. In opposite to e.g. Wordpress, you cannot choose between "regular" URLs and re-written URLs, it's use is assumed and this, absolutely makes sense: Who [Read more...]

DNS fail: Kabeldeutschland

November 5, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser 2 Comments

One week ago, my hosting provider moved to another server and changed the IP address from 78.46.237.174 to 78.47.120.47. Obviously, everything was prepared fine, even the TTL handling. Okay, I understand that updating the ISP provider's DNSses worldwide could take up to 24 hours and at the end of the day this cannot be done real time. Yesterday, I tried to call up my domain [Read more...]

Switching to Ubuntu Part II – how to install Twhirl

November 2, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser 1 Comment

Of course, you have to announce your new blog posts over Twitter. A cool twitter client is not the worst idea - I personally decided to run Twhirl for this purpose because Twhirl is able to run multiple accounts. As Twhirl is based on the platform Adobe Air, you first have to install this one. Go to http://get.adobe.com/air/, download it to your /home/ folder. Open the command line and type [Read more...]

Switching to Ubuntu, Part I – how to install Skype on Ubuntu

November 2, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser Leave a Comment

If you are in business, your companies' IT policy is perhaps to run Microsoft products like Windows OS only. Although you might have a bit of freedom in this manner (let's say because you are presenting on Open Source software fairs and need to run a Linux for this case) the switch might be not that easy thinking about Microsoft Exchange, Skype, VPN, Microsoft Office and so on. For me, it is [Read more...]

User Feedback and unexpected feature in OXID eShop 4.2.0

October 24, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser Leave a Comment

Today, I was mainly working on two topics: Firstly, there came up some requests about the roadmap for the upcoming 4.2.0 release of OXID eShop. Obviously, I did not explain it well enough in my blog post. I probably have to explain it a more clear way the next time... On the other hand, I found out some interesting news: OXID eShop will provide overridable templates from now on. That means - if [Read more...]

OXID Partner Day 2009

October 22, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser 2 Comments

After my one-week-trip to Barcelona (maybe another blogpost will follow about it) I will go to Freiburg next week, gladly taking part in OXID's Partner Day 2009 on October, 27th. As usual, a lot of OXID partners will come presenting themselves, discussing about OXID eSales news and attending the so called "Best Solution Award", an award for the best shopping cart software implementation split up [Read more...]

WordPress and band homepages

October 11, 2009 by Marco Steinhäuser Leave a Comment

Actually I wrote the blog post "The Scuttles at Anker Leipzig" to check out the module "Upcoming Events" whether WordPress is working nice for bands and artists that want to run an interactive website instead of a stupid static one. You know, I don't really like that upcoming Flash intro pages (that you might skip in best case) followed by links like "Band", "Members", "Sound", "Guest Book", [Read more...]
